A very momentous day in our journey. We made it to the sea, or should say open water. Took only 6 paddles. Next time we will be on the Saginaw Bay. 4 of the 25 that started on DAY1 have completed the 71 miles of paddling to get to the Bay. Riley presently is the only one to runyak the entire 130.4 miles, but Jill Jenkins will be finishing the 59.4 miles of running to catch up. 
Nine paddled today as a group. Linda Gamage, who has paddled the entire 71 miles, Kevin Rochester first back since the maiden voyage, myself, first timer Bentley Streling, Ron Hegenauer, first timer Jeff Yambor, third timer Dan Lamkin, first timer Fred Smith Jr, and his dad Fred Smith a third timer.
42 individuals now have paddled in some capacity on the expedition.

We all took a break at the BCRC to let everyone catch up and make a decision about where to have lunch.



BCRC landing would have made a nice launch or landing but it just did not fit in the planned paddle distance. So far we've averaged 11.8 miles a day.

This is a bridge of the Bay County Riverwalk/Railtrail System

We're off to eat at Lumber Baron Brewpub, owner same as Hooter's, which makes it okay to dock there in my mind.

This is my 4th time sighting the Saginaw River/Bay. It still is awesome seeing a horizon of sky and water meet after paddling many mile.

After finishing day on Day 14 Hope and I went to Tawas Point to checkout possible landings. There is a stat park and campground there. I remember our family spending a night there in the early 80s but I never walked to the end of the point. I was pleasantly surprised by the long sand spit. The place reminded me of the intercoastal area south of Ocean City MD. There is a lighthouse on Tawas Point which from most places can't be seen well. The boat launch at Gateway Park located at the south end of Tawas City Because the water was so calm I decided to paddle first and run later. TenaCity to WindyCity Runyak  August 20, 2017 TenaCity 2 WindyCity DAY 5 CLINK ON ALL PHOTOS TO ENLARGE    It was a 11 mile paddle and run today. The plan for runyakers was to just go part way, 8.6 mi., keep mileage down because the Crim 10 race was in 6 days. THEN no runyakers showed up. With the shorter run I even moved the run start time from 8:00 to 8:30. I will not accomodate runyakers from now on. I will make plans for this runyaker only.  Today's paddlers were Linda and Pete Gamage, Kate Ferris and her father Bob, Doug Barnes, Fred Smith, Jill Jenkins, Chris Marty, Dan Rice his business manager Ahmed Dabour, and myself.  Dan Rice and Ahmed run a Route 66 store at the end of the route on the Santa Monica Pier. This was Ahmed's very first time kayaking. Before paddling we left Ahmed with the kayaks while position vehicles at the takeout point. When we returned Ahmed was all wet. TenaCity to WindyCity Runyak Sept. 4, 2019 Flint to Chicago DAY 35 When Kate and I arrived at the M72 Manistee River crossing it was still dark. I left her out in the cold with a lawn chair and blanket and drove to what would be our day's debarking point, CCC Bridge Campground. It was a 15 mile drive by car but the run back to Kate and kayaks would only be 10.7 miles. I ran on Riverview Road, shorter in distance but hardly used by vehicles being gravel and mostly sand. For nearly 10 miles I saw motor vehicle tracks but not any vehicles. Talk about being in the Boondocks. Bales of straw were strewn over the road in one place to make it passable.  I only had to dance around muddy sections like this a couple times. For miles while running I heard chainsaws at work. I came upon this station where piles of lumber would soon be hauled to a mill. Riverview Road was not a good name for the road. I ran on it for 9.5 miles and never saw the river once.  ...
